Shopify Plus brands rarely need one universal AI product. They need a stack in which merchant operations, external AI distribution, on-site selling, search, merchandising, support, and interface guidance each have a defined owner.
This guide is published by kn8. It uses current official vendor documentation, not a common hands-on benchmark. Each “best for” recommendation names the use case where the product has the clearest documented edge.
Best AI for each Shopify Plus use case
| Best for | Product | Documented edge | Consider when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Merchant work inside Shopify admin | Shopify Sidekick | Shopify-aware guidance, analysis, content, forms, and approved admin actions | The operator, not the shopper, needs help running the store |
| Distribution through external AI channels | Shopify Agentic Storefronts | Shopify Catalog distribution, channel controls, and channel-attributed performance reporting | Products should be discoverable or purchasable in supported third-party AI surfaces |
| Native storefront chat tied to Shopify data | Shopify Inbox | Shopify’s announced AI sales associate can answer questions, suggest products, handle order inquiries, and hand off to a person | A native Shopify chat surface is the preferred shopper workspace |
| Multi-surface on-site selling | Rep AI | Chat, conversational search, product-page modules, and behavioral engagement | One shopper agent should span several on-site entry points |
| Product-specific help on PDPs | Manifest AI | A documented product-page assistant embed alongside the broader shopping assistant | PDP questions are the primary assisted-selling problem |
| Product expertise plus service workflows | Alhena AI | Specialist product, order, support, and handoff agents, depending on integrations | Pre- and post-purchase assistance should share an agent program |
| Search, personalization, and merchandising | Nosto | Search, recommendations, category merchandising, segmentation, and testing | Discovery governance spans search, categories, and recommendations |
| Bundles, recommendations, and cart merchandising | Rebuy | Recommendation widgets, dynamic bundles, and cart merchandising | The commercial lever is attachment, bundling, or cart experience |
| Ecommerce support operations | Gorgias | Pre-purchase Shopping Assistant plus post-purchase Support Agent in a helpdesk-led platform | Service workflows, human teams, and handoff are central |
| Guidance through the existing storefront interface | kn8 | Connected state, visible guidance, supported action, and verified result in the interface already on screen | The current storefront must remain the shopper’s visible workspace |
Several of these products can coexist. Sidekick may help the merchant, Agentic Storefronts may distribute products to AI channels, Nosto or Rebuy may shape discovery, and a shopping or support agent may handle a separate shopper job.
Best for merchant operations: Shopify Sidekick
Edge. Sidekick works inside Shopify admin with Shopify context. Shopify documents assistance for analysis, content, store configuration, forms, workflows, and other operator tasks, subject to the staff member’s permissions and approval.
Consider when. Choose Sidekick when the primary user is the ecommerce team and the work should happen inside the native admin rather than in another operating console.
Verify. Check plan and feature availability, approval behavior, staff permissions, third-party app support, and the exact admin tasks needed by each team.
Best for external AI-channel distribution: Shopify Agentic Storefronts
Edge. Agentic Storefronts gives eligible merchants native controls for making product data available to supported AI channels through Shopify Catalog and for reviewing channel performance. Purchasing behavior varies by channel.
Consider when. Choose this layer when the job is product discovery or purchasing in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, or another supported external surface.
Verify. Review store and product eligibility, country and channel availability, catalog mapping, direct-checkout status, opt-out controls, attribution, and B2B exclusions.
For the operational setup, see How to Set Up Shopify Agentic Storefronts.
Best for native storefront chat: Shopify Inbox
Edge. Shopify’s Spring ‘26 release documents an AI sales associate inside Inbox that lives on the storefront. Shopify says it can answer buyer questions, suggest products, handle order inquiries using Shopify-admin data, personalize recommendations for shoppers signed in with Shop, and hand the conversation to a person according to merchant controls.
Consider when. Choose Inbox when the team wants a Shopify-native chat experience and the assistant’s work should be grounded in the catalog, inventory, policies, and order information Shopify makes available to it.
Verify. Check current availability, supported markets and languages, eligible data, personalization conditions, human-handoff controls, reporting, and the exact shopper actions available in the store’s configuration.
Best for multi-surface on-site selling: Rep AI
Edge. Rep documents chat, full-screen conversational search, product-page modules, behavioral triggers, and additional messaging channels. Its advantage is coverage across several shopper entry points rather than one fixed surface.
Consider when. Choose Rep when the Plus team wants one conversational-selling program to span discovery, product consideration, engagement, and handoff.
Verify. Ask which surfaces and channels are included, what commerce state each can access, which actions are enabled, and how pricing and measurement change with traffic and usage.
Best for product-page assistance: Manifest AI
Edge. Manifest documents a dedicated AI Product Assistant embed for product and store questions on PDPs. That gives a Plus team a focused way to place assistance beside product details.
Consider when. Choose Manifest when product questions are the clearest gap and the team values an explicit theme placement more than a broader service platform.
Verify. Test theme compatibility, product coverage, handoff, analytics, unsupported questions, and the relationship between the PDP embed and the main assistant.
Best for a broader product-and-service agent program: Alhena AI
Edge. Alhena documents built-in agents for product expertise, order management, general support, human transfer, and other workflows. The specialist-agent model is useful when the operating scope crosses the purchase boundary.
Consider when. Choose Alhena when product discovery, support, orders, and handoff should sit within one configurable agent program.
Verify. Confirm which agents are enabled for the account, the ecommerce and helpdesk integrations each requires, channel coverage, guidelines, permissions, and escalation behavior.
Best for governed search and personalization: Nosto
Edge. Nosto combines personalized search, product recommendations, category merchandising, segmentation, and A/B testing. It gives merchandisers direct controls over ranking and discovery rather than treating every problem as a conversation.
Consider when. Choose Nosto when the Plus challenge is relevance and merchandising across search, categories, and recommendations.
Verify. Review integration mode, catalog scale, merchandising controls, language and market support, experiment design, reporting, and the staffing required to operate the program.
Use the ecommerce product-discovery map to separate search, recommendations, merchandising, and guided selling before assigning this layer a job.
Best for bundles and cart merchandising: Rebuy
Edge. Rebuy documents recommendation widgets, dynamic bundles, subscription options, and cart merchandising across the shopping flow. Its advantage is a concentrated merchandising layer for attachment and basket construction.
Consider when. Choose Rebuy when recommendations, bundles, cart design, or post-purchase offers are the primary commercial program.
Verify. Test bundle and variant rules, recommendation governance, cart compatibility, checkout constraints, subscription behavior, performance, and incremental measurement.
Best for ecommerce support operations: Gorgias
Edge. Gorgias places a pre-purchase Shopping Assistant and a post-purchase Support Agent inside a helpdesk-led ecommerce platform. That connects shopper automation to the service team, policies, integrations, and escalation path.
Consider when. Choose Gorgias when support operations, ticket history, human agents, and post-purchase workflows matter as much as pre-purchase guidance.
Verify. Review automated workflows, integration coverage, sensitive-action approvals, handoff context, channel support, reporting definitions, and cost at the expected resolution volume.
Best for guidance through the existing storefront interface: kn8
Edge. kn8 keeps the connected storefront interface as the shopper’s visible workspace. The host exposes current interface state, visible targets, and supported actions; kn8 guides through that interface and verifies the resulting state.
Consider when. Consider kn8 when preserving the existing Plus storefront experience is a hard requirement and the team can define one specific shopper task with explicit permissions and success criteria.
Scope. kn8 is in private beta. Evaluate the exact connected task, permissions, and success criteria with the intended Plus storefront.
Build the Plus shortlist by evidence
Ask every candidate for the same minimum package:
- the exact operator or shopper job;
- the surface and configuration being demonstrated;
- the state and systems available during the task;
- supported actions, permissions, and confirmation rules;
- the result and its verification or audit trail;
- implementation, performance, accessibility, and maintenance requirements;
- outcome evidence with the method, baseline, and attribution window.
The strongest Plus stack is the one in which every layer has a distinct job, a verified implementation, bounded authority, and observable results.
